Cape Town, South Africa (20 November 2020) – We sobbed when we first heard Jane’s story and now we are crying again because she has recovered and can finally be with her baby, Tatenda.

Jane welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world in early October but shortly afterwards she gave birth, while being transferred from the operating table to a ward bed, she collapsed and broke her neck. Jane was rushed to a speciality ward that focuses on neck injuries and told she would not be able to spend time with her new baby girl.

She was absolutely devastated by the news which made the entire situation since the accident, all the more stressful! The risk was incredibly high right and Jane had to stay completely still for 7 weeks before they could assess the damage done.

Not being with her baby girl broke her heart but thankfully her husband Charles was able to take the baby home and care for her while Jane was in hospital.

Liezel Maderal Maree started a crowdfund to help cover medical bills and all additional costs incurred by the accident.

Yesterday they shared the very happy news that Jane is finally out of traction and has been signed off to wear a neck brace while she continues her recovery. Liezel even shared an image of Jane with her beautiful daughter Tatenda.

“We have good news !
First time since birth … Jane is reunited with her baby and finally out of hospital after 7 weeks on her back In Traction. Her neck C2 is healed enough to allow her to wear the neck brace at home for 6 more weeks. She can count her lucky stars!!!! We are so thrilled! Meet little Tatenda. It means, Thank you!”

The crowdfund is still active and Jane will still need extensive medical care so if you would like to continue supporting her, you can do so via the crowdfund here.
