Talented young artist Nikolas Slater has spent the past year growing as an artist in renowned artivist Natania Botha’s Studio!

Johannesburg, South Africa (24 February 2025) — Week after week, talented young artist Nikolas Slater joins renowned local artivist Natania Botha in her studio to create.

The weeks have added up, and now Nikolas is officially celebrating passing the year mark as a mosaic artist as well as incredible dedication to his creativity, passion and perseverance.

Natania tells Good Things Guy that Nikolas’ journey as a budding mosaic artist has fostered confidence, independence and a sense of belonging for him.

Because Nikolas lives with Down Syndrome, finding a space in which all three of the above are present can be rare. But through his craft, he has learned, as many come to, that art is no friend to barriers.

“Art knows no barriers,” reflects Natania. “It is a universal language that connects us all.”

Working on ‘Nik’s Collection’ weekly with Natania, the sessions have produced a gorgeous body of work that reflects Nikolas’ vibrant spirit and the boundless potential of inclusive art spaces. Fragment by fragment, the mosaics come together as if all these little pieces were always meant to stand together. If the same can be said for efforts relating to inclusivity, we have no doubt that the finished product will, too, be a masterpiece.

A big milestone for the young artist was getting to debut at the Melrose House Museum. Here, his work was exhibited for a fantastic three months to the public, a massive deal for any creative.

“As we celebrate this one-year milestone, we invite others to support and appreciate the incredible Nikolas continues to create,” says Natania. “His journey is one of passion and dedication, proving that with the right support and encouragement, talent can flourish in the most extraordinary ways.”
