Nqobile Khuzwayo endured various challenges, including a brain injury and limited mobility, but remained unstoppable in her tracks as she persevered through her academic pursuits to finally graduate.
Durban, South Africa (20 September 2024) – After years of tireless academic grind and countless late nights, graduating is a truly rewarding milestone for any young person.
For Nqobile Khuzwayo, this was a big achievement for her after overcoming numerous challenges as a student with disabilities. In 2011, she suffered a hypoxic brain injury that necessitated her to receive specialised education.
Raised by her grandmother, she adapted to various environments and circumstances, never allowing her disabilities to define her.
She took a gap year after matric in 2018, due to limited mobility, but persevered and secured a spot at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in 2020.
This week, the 28-year-old resilient young woman from KwaMashu graduated with a Diploma in Business and Information Management at the opening ceremony of the DUT 2024 Spring Graduation.
Nqobile’s story serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring individuals with disabilities to pursue their dreams.
“I want to specifically encourage students living with disabilities to pursue their academic dreams. They must not let any barriers hold them back, with determination and focus they can succeed and reach their full potential.
“I would advise anyone considering furthering their education to take the opportunity and go for it. Studying can be a fun and rewarding experience, especially when you are passionate about your field,” said a driven Nqobile.
