A group of young men looking to change the odds they’ve been dealt started a business doing odd jobs in Bonteheuwel.
Bonteheuwel, South Africa (04 October 2021) – Far too many youths feel left out of the employment sector, waiting for jobs that are incredibly hard to come by. That is why when people take the issue and turn it on its head, it is always an inspiring story to share.
A group of young men in Bonteheuwel grew tired of waiting for job opportunities and decided to create their own business. Through Oddjobbi founded by Shuaib Sayhn, they have learned the basic entrepreneurial skills to run their own small businesses. They meet weekly to discuss ideas and find opportunities to grow their new venture.
The young men are offering a cleaning service in their community, charging R10 to clean the bins after rubbish day or R50 per month to clean the bins and the surrounding pavement area.
This service not only provides a small income for the team, but it helps keep the neighbourhood tidy. The young men decided to take the next step in their business.
Over the weekend, they held a car wash with the hopes of raising enough money to purchase uniforms. A Facebook user saw their post and offered to donate the amount needed, a total of R1200. They were over the moon. The young men carried out their car wash anyway and have placed the money in their “jar of hope”.
They are working hard to change their circumstances and make a career out of helping out in their community. They will continue to come up with ways to offer services that are for the benefit of the community.
People are already keen to take on the services and help the young men grow their business. If you would like to find out more, you can check out the Facebook page here.
