traffic fines

A South African police officer has gone viral for being a little kinder than necessary… a simple story that the country desperately needs right now.

It’s difficult to not get caught up in main stream media as the onslaught of corruption, crime, racism and hatred gets featured on the front page of most newspapers but every now & then we get a glimpse of goodness with simple stories that make us see a different side of our beautiful country.

And this is one of those. A police officer is going viral for sharing a little kindness during a road block.

Wentzel van Deventer posted the story on Facebook yesterday which has already racked up over 8000 shares and 3500 comments.

The officer in the post, stopped van Deventer and his wife at a roadside check in Roodepoort but van Deventer’s wife had forgotten to place her new licence disc on the windscreen.

The van Deventer’s did have a new one in the car but the AARTO road traffic penalties says that they even if there is a disc available, the police officer can still issue a fine of up to R2500 for not displaying the correct license disk.

The police officer left their vehicle and made his way to his patrol car without txplaingin what he was doing and both van Deventer prepared themselves for the more than possible outcome of being fined.

The police officer returned a couple of seconds later holding a brand new license disc holder… instead of a fine. He handed the disc holder to van Deventer with a smile. And van Deventer immediately asked if he could take his picture to tell everyone about how a simple act of kindness had completely made their day.

“This is the type of community policing I was taught and commend this Officer as an asset to JMPD and his directors, a very friendly and professional Officer.”
