Young songbird Milo, along with the Magaliesberg Children’s Choir, have been given the opportunity to perform across parts of Europe this December (and even for royal officials)! Thanks to help from friends and supportive strangers, Milo’s dream is coming true.

Global, South Africa (15 November 2024) — Young songbird Milo from Pretoria has been presented with the opportunity of all opportunities for a choral member her age, thanks to a chance to perform across parts of Europe along with her choir, the Magaliesberg Children’s Choir.

“Milo has always had a song in her heart, bringing music into our lives since she was a baby,” shares her mom, Ilonka Esterhuyse.

“Throughout her life, her love for singing has filled our home with warmth and joy, touching everyone who hears her.”

10-year-old Milo has poured many hours of dedication into polishing her vocal cords and performance skills (she is also a keen pianist). So, when the opportunity for her choir to embark on a European tour and sing for Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands this December, her mom knew she had to do everything possible to make the trip happen for her budding songbird

“An artist’s prestige is often measured by the iconic stages they’ve graced, and this December, Milo and her choir will have the honour of singing in some of Europe’s most revered and historic locations, including the majestic German Opera House in Berlin, the beautiful Meldorfer Dom, and the Paul Gerhardt church in Lübben,” Ilonka explains, adding that the children will also perform for the likes of Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Germany as well as government ministers and religious leaders.

As for Christmas Day, the choir is set to sing hymns and carols during mass in Amsterdam’s De Krijtberg church. On top of this, they will also bring the sounds of African festive cheer to Christmas markets in Büsum and Aschaffenburg.

It’s an experience any parent would want for their child, and one that songbird Milo is a coin’s throw away from experiencing thanks to kind friends and dream supporters!

Heartwarmingly, Ilana has shared that their community has made it possible for them to cover the majority of the costs for her and her daughter.

“For me, being able to join Milo on this journey is a gift beyond words. Spending Christmas side by side in Europe, watching her share her gift of song on these historic stages, will be a memory we both cherish for the rest of our lives.”

Sometimes, it takes a village to raise a child, and sometimes, it takes a village to make their dreams come true.

“Thank you for believing in Milo and helping us make her dream take flight.”—Ilana Esterhuyse.
