Desiree Moses from PEP Parklands gave her very last R9 to help a woman buy bread for children living in a safe house, PEP gave her a full-time job in return.

Cape Town, South Africa – Dare to Share works hard to better the lives of those in need. It all started in 2012 when Marc Buhrer decided to donate his birthday party which fed 200 people at the Haven Shelters in Napier Street and Woodstock.

Since then the organisation has worked to help children, the elderly, animals and the homeless. Recently they shared an inspiring story about a casual worker at PEP that made a selfless donation and in return was rewarded with full-time employment.

“My Mother recently visited a PEP clothing store in Parklands to purchase 14 sets of pyjamas for a beneficiary of Dare to Share. When she arrived at the til to pay for the goods, a casual worker in store who was taking stock asked my Mom why she was buying so may sets of pyjamas.”

“My Mom replied that she was purchasing the pyjamas for kids who were residing at a safe house.”

“Once the lady heard this she asked if she could also make a donation to the safe house because she wanted to make a difference and gave my Mom her last R9 in her pocket… money that was meant to buy herself a loaf of bread.”

“At first my Mom being the sensitive lady she is, didn’t want to accept this lady’s last R9 but after she insisted, my Mom accepted and ensured she would pass it on.”

“My Mom thought about this wonderful and generous gesture from the lady casually employed by PEP, who also happens to be a single mother, that she called PEP Headoffice and mentioned what an incredibly generous action this lady made by donating her last R9 to someone in need.”

“My Mom has kept in contact with the employee and received a message from her last week that she has now received a permanent employment contract and can look after her family.”

“Desiree Moses from PEP Parklands, you are an inspiration to us all. If we can learn anything from Desiree, it’s is that giving should be an aspirational lifestyle and there are certainly still some very very good people out there.”

This is such a beautiful story of generosity being paid forward, even better that the lovely Desiree was given a permanent position thanks to her selfless donation.
