A group of pre-schoolers put their lessons on kindness and care into practice by rallying their families to donate bread, spreads and snacks to provide vital nutrition to their peers in need.

Amanzimtoti, South Africa (16 September 2025) – Whenever we are in a position to help or uplift, it’s important that we embrace the opportunity to be a force for good because when it comes down to things that matter most, our ability to give back is one of the most meaningful things we can do in this lifetime.

This was beautifully demonstrated by the littlies of Moyeni Pre-Primary School in Athlone Park, Amanzimtoti, who, through the inspiration of their dedicated teacher, rallied their families to give to a cause that would directly support their underprivileged peers.

Explaining what every parent knows from hard experience, the principal, Natasha Lyle, described how 3 to 6-year-olds view life as revolving around themselves.

“We are intentional about helping our learners discover the joy and satisfaction of being other-focused through mutual helping and sharing, empathy and so on.”

Natasha had learned about The Domino Foundation’s Nutrition programme, which provides high-protein sandwiches to underserved primary and high schools, as well as to churches and community centres in the Toti area.

She was keen to involve her pupils in caring for some of their peers who, if it were not for the daily delivery of peanut butter sandwiches Domino makes, would go through their school day on an empty tummy. She explained to her Moyeni pre-schoolers how the sandwiches feed not only growing bodies but developing brains as well.

All through the year, the small learners learn about important life-values like kindness, respect and care. This time, they were able to put all they had learned into practice by donating loaves of bread, spreads and snacks to the Domino Foundation to pass on to surrounding schools and learning centres in need.

“It was such a happy morning for us meeting Tash and her staff and receiving the school’s generous donation. We are always needing more bread, spread and peanut butter, and so this kind gift is much appreciated,” commented one of the South Coast Domino team, Mondli Mngadi.

Mondi is the man in charge of piloting the Domino vehicle, delivering around 1,500 sandwiches each week to 17 establishments, plus porridge to 31 ECD centres. He said there are always opportunities for other pre-primaries to follow Moyeni’s example and become involved in what he calls the #DominoEffect and to put caring into action.
