A Pretoria community hero and hairdresser, André Green, is taking his scissors below the surface! The award-winning hairstylist is preparing for a record-breaking challenge to complete the most haircuts underwater in one hour, all in the name of charity.

Pretoria, South Africa (02 November 2025) – Next month, André will dive into the pool at Abraham Kriel Bambanani Langlaagte Kinderhuis in Johannesburg to attempt an official Guinness World Record, aiming to cut more than 27 underwater haircuts in just sixty minutes!

It’s going to be a splash that brings good, as Green’s goal is to raise R400,000 for the children supported by Abraham Kriel Bambanani, a charity that’s been changing lives since 1902 by providing safe homes, education, emotional support, and skills development to more than 900 orphaned and vulnerable children each year.

Last year, André made national headlines when he completed 540 haircuts in 24 hours, smashing the existing Guinness World Record of 526 and raising R280,000 for the same cause.

The upcoming underwater challenge ramps up the challenge, and the goal for giving back.

Together with a team of professional divers, André has been training to perfect his underwater finesse!

He won’t be doing it alone. The event on the 29th of November will bring together a group of qualified scuba divers, each ready for a fresh new underwater hairdo. There’ll also be a live audience, a livestream for supporters who want to watch from home.

Abraham Kriel Bambanani’s Annamart Viljoen, who helps drive social funding for the organisation, says André’s efforts have already made a big impact. “Andre’s record-breaking effort brought joy and resources to our kids; they felt seen and valued.”

If all goes according to plan, by the end of November, André will not only have a new world record to his name, but hundreds of smiles to go with it.
