A Craven week Rugby player has made a 7 year old’s dreams come true with a simple act of kindness and inspired thousands in the process.

Tim Hutchinson wrote a letter to Mrs Barnes of Glenwood High School, to tell her about one of their Craven week rugby players who made his grandsons dreams come true with a simple act of kindness.

“I wish to bring to your attention a very generous and unsolicited gesture from one of your Craven week rugby players, Rynhardt Jonker after the final Craven week match at St Stithians on Saturday.

After the match my seven-year old grandson Brett asked if he could go across the field and have a photo taken with a couple of the KZN Sharks players as under the guidance of his father, two uncles and myself as ex Durbanites he has developed into a big Sharks fan.

I waited until they had finished the team talk and asked the coach if he could have a photo with a couple of the boys. Next thing the whole team got together and the little guy was included in a photo which will be a fantastic memory for years to come.

As he was standing with the team Rynhardt leaned forward and offered him his match jersey. To say the little guy was excited is an understatement, he slept in the jersey on Saturday night and on Sunday morning he was out on the lawn in his jersey reliving the match against the Lions, although this time the match ended in a resounding win for the Sharks.

I wished to bring to your attention this very generous and selfless gesture on Rynhardt’s behalf.

He is a very polite and thoughtful young man and a credit to both Glenwood High School and the KZN Craven week team, one does not realise what a huge impact this kind of gesture has made in this little boy’s life and he will be a rugby and Sharks supporter for many years to come.

Our family is very generous in their praise of Rynhardt’s thoughtful act, please pass on our sincere thanks to him and let him know it is a gesture little Brett will remember for many years. May we also extend our warm thanks to Rynhardt, we will be watching his development closely and wish him all the best for his future academic and rugby endeavours.”

The post has been shared thousands of times across social media and inspired so many along the way.

“Well done Rhynardt, I lost my 17 year old rugby playing son from Westville this year and as a parent I can add how proud and loved your family feel from watching you play the sport you love and the person you are in that simple gesture.
Live on and never stop believing.” – Brett Magree

“This is why I love the game of rugby, it teaches boys to become men with ethics and values, and I am sure his parents and Glenwood as well. Hats off to you young man, from a Lions supporter.” – Herman Voster

“Don’t ever loose that Rynhardt. Once some sportsmen become famous they forget the little dudes that look up to them and the public that support them. Keep those values strong… Men are made of integrity and values.” – Constance Thorne Jack

How do we change the world? With a simple act of kindness which can leave a heart print that lasts a lifetime!
