The Mahlangu family was on the brink of losing their home, unable to afford food or send their children to school. But South Africans showed up for them, drastically changing their circumstances and placing them at the centre of grace and a fresh start.

Gauteng, South Africa (05 December 2025) – After being retrenched from his job at a home appliances store during the COVID-19 period, Kenneth Given Mahlangu has struggled to find stable employment since.

He has been taking on small handyman jobs wherever possible, but the work is irregular and not enough to support his family.

According to The Angel Network Gauteng, Kenneth’s wife previously worked as a domestic worker for a family who later emigrated. Since then, she, too, has been unable to secure new employment.

The Mahlangu family was three months behind on rent, on the brink of eviction, struggling to afford even basic groceries, and their children could not attend school.

Kenneth’s hope is to find work as a driver, but he cannot afford to renew his driver’s licence, which has become a major barrier to employment.

Moved by their circumstances, the Angel Network issued an appeal on their platforms, asking the public to assist them with donations towards rent, basic groceries, and school fees.

After a few weeks, kind South Africans have beautifully come through for a family in their hour of great need.

“Because of you, their story has changed. Through your collective giving, we were able to settle three months’ rent arrears, pay three months’ school fees and transport for two children, help Kenneth renew his driver’s license so that he can seek employment and clear outstanding funeral policy payments,” The Angel Network shared in a heartwarming update.

But the kindness didn’t stop there. Kenneth and his family were able to secure a piece of land with a three-bedroom aluminium structure thanks to the support of those who sought to restore their dignity and provide a foundation for a promising future.

“This is what community looks like. This is what love in action looks like. This is what we can do. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing in the gap when it mattered most,” thanked a grateful Angel Network team.

Sharing their sentiments, we celebrate this life-changing kindness and compassion that has now placed four lives once in crisis at the centre of a stable and fresh new start.
