For some time, Little Free Libraries have been emerging all over the world, but a jogger named Jessica Mcclard from the USA started wondering why they were such a success.

Little free libraries have even started popping up in South Africa! The first official free library was started last year at the Johannesburg Botanical Garden in Emmarentia by a Northcliff High School pupil.

On a Rotary exchange trip to Holland in December, Tanya Meyer discovered the Little Free Library initiative & has since set-up the first Little Free Library in Africa.

We now have over 50 around the country!

Jessica Mcclard saw little free libraries in her home town and decided to update them a little.

“My feeling is little free structures both create space for neighborliness and address social problems,” McClard told Huffpost. This is how she came up with The Little Free Pantry initiative.

A small company funded her for $250, she set up her first free pantry next to the church. The project became an immediate success. Now it has over 10K fans on FB and has already inspired others to build free pantries in other parts of the country & world.

Since one pantry was close to a school, she also made sure kids get necessary school supplies
