A quiet dream finally came true for one hardworking baker when a generous donation delivered the kitchen appliance she had always yearned for but could never afford.
Durban, South Africa (15 October 2025) – When our hard work is recognised by those around us, their support can be the very thing that empowers.
For a local baker working hard to run a business that helps put food on the table for her family, it was her drive and determination that inspired the Mission Thando Khabazela Soup Kitchen to share about her work with partner organisation, the Angel Network Durban.
This month, the two organisations were able to surprise the talented baker with a mixer generously donated by The Angel Network Durban in what was a truly heartwarming moment.
“This gift isn’t just a kitchen essential. It’s a symbol of hope and empowerment for her baking business,” Mission Thando said.

When she received the mixer, her eyes lit up with pure joy, saying:
“I’ve always dreamed of owning a Kenwood mixer, but it was beyond my budget. This gift means everything to me – it’s a chance to elevate my baking and make my business dreams a reality.”
Now every sweet treat she creates with this mixer will be infused with love and gratitude!
According to Mission Thando, which operates in the areas of Khabazela, Ntuzuma, and Quarry Heights, for many women in these communities, baking isn’t just a hobby; it’s a lifeline.
“With this mixer, she’ll be able to bake more efficiently, experiment with new recipes, and reach more customers. This donation is a step towards financial independence and self-sufficiency.”
“A huge thank you to The Angel Network Durban for their kindness and commitment to uplifting our community. Your generosity is the yeast that makes dreams rise!”
It warms the heart to witness a woman’s hard work recognised and her honest business given the boost in efficiency that it needed.
Mission Thando continues to make a difference where it’s most needed, breaking the cycle of hunger and poverty through sustainable food systems, like its breakfast feeding programme and regular food donations to those struggling to make ends meet. Every donation is a reminder that they are seen, valued, and cared for.
