Team South Africa blew fringes back and socks off at the 2024 Talent Olympics with 51 gold medals, 38 silver and 30 bronze as well as many life-altering opportunities!

 

Global (25 July 2024) — Every year, the World Championships of Performing Arts knows its in for a South African showdown. Defending our rich history of dazzling performances at Worlds, Team South Africa once again blew fringes back and knocked socks off; wowing the crowd at the 2024 Talent Olympics across disciplines.

The 2024 Talent Olympics took place from 28 June to 7 July in California, where dancers, actors, models, singers and other talented culture vultures from 70 countries competed for coveted places and opportunities.

For the 2024 run, Team South Africa didn’t hesitate to show off in the best way and claimed 51 gold medals, 38 silver medals, 30 bronze medals and 19 scholarships in the process!

On top of this, 45 Team South Africa contestants made it to the semi-finals, while 12 made it all the way to the final leg of the competition. All in all, there were  11 Junior Overall Division South African winners, and 21 Senior Overall Division winners.

The Junior Dance Group of the World was South Africa’s Pulse Masters (who also won Junior Performer of the World), while the Junior Actor of the World went to Tatum Murray-Smith, and the Senior Actor of the World went to Ronel Basson.

This warmly welcomed news for cultural enthusiasts in our country comes off the back of a very successful winter for the arts, with talents across our provinces bringing home victories. ‘Flying Boy’ Sizolwethu Ngidi from Amalakhe township in Port Shepstone soared to world champion status for his fancy footwork at the World Freestyle Championships, while Cape Town-based dance crew Basic Black scooping silver at the World Dance Masters and KwaZulu-Natal’s Kearsney College Choir winning the Golden Voices of Barcelona competition.
