The Hope Exchange and U-turn have teamed up to help the homeless even more in the Cape Town CBD, combining each organisation’s mission to create one super mission!

Cape Town, South Africa (16 March 2025) — The Hope Exchange and U-turn Homeless Ministries are uniting in a big way to create ‘The Hope Exchange operated by U-turn!

Both organisations decided that teaming up would have a greater impact on people affected by homelessness in the Cape Town CBD, bringing together their shared hope for a better life for those facing homelessness to create a kind of super mission for good.

The Hope Exchange helps the homeless help themselves, restoring dignity and facilitating personal growth. Their aim is to reintegrate clients back into society or reunite them with their families through holistic social care.

U-turn, on the other hand, provides a full recovery pathway out of homelessness through an innovative skills-based programme designed by an interdisciplinary team of occupational therapists, social workers, homeless support workers, counsellors, trainers and life coaches. With a structured and phased rehabilitation programme, 97% of U-turn graduates remain sober, housed and employed!

The new team-up will combine the longevity of The Hope Exchange and the holistic social care approach of U-turn, with the objective to strengthen both entities’ operations and impact. It will include, inter-alia, the integration of U-turn’s Life Journey with The Hope Exchange’s existing services!

“We are privileged to be partnering with an organisation that’s been in service to the homeless in Cape Town for over four decades. We know that through this new relationship even more people affected by homelessness will be impacted for good,” says CEO of U-turn Jean-Ray Knighton Fitt.

Adds the Hope Exchange’s Director, Peter Solomon:

“A joint operation like this will no doubt bring greater hope and healing to Cape Town’s homeless community as well as lasting and sustainable change. The alignment of our vision to serve all people regardless of race, religion, or worldview and U-turn’s belief that every life is intrinsically valuable and nobody should have to live on the street, provides an ideal foundation on which to build a future.”
