After completing First Aid training, Chuma Dyasoni was inspired to put these skills to the best use by offering free basic care to the homeless.
Cape Town, South Africa (04 May 2025) — A thoughtful initiative has popped up in Cape Town! After Chuma Dyasoni completed First Aid and wound-care training, the CCID Social Development department peer field worker decided to put these skills to the best use and offer free basic care to the homeless.
Setting up a table at The Services Dining Rooms (a non-profit organisation serving meals to Cape Town’s vulnerable at 32 Canterbury Street); Chuma offers free wound cleaning and basic care—a huge bonus to those who were only expecting a meal.
Auxiliary social worker Herbert November explains that the service is available weekly, dubbing the initiative as thoughtful.
The CCID Social Development Department’s peer field worker project is all about helping those who once experienced homelessness themselves help those still finding their way. This makes Chuma’s efforts all the more thoughtful, considering that Chuma likely knows well the struggle of trying to receive the basics of First Aid Care when you’re in such a vulnerable position.
Meanwhile in more thoughtful news centring around people experiencing homelessness in South Africa, South Africans are swapping pillows for pavements and the comforts of rest indoors in a bid to raise awareness, empathy and funds as part of the upcoming ‘A Night on the Streets’ campaign led by U-turn Homeless Ministries.
