Faced with countless rejections from local universities dampening his dream of becoming a veterinarian, Tsireledzo refused to give up. Instead, he channelled his disappointment into a relentless pursuit to study abroad, an opportunity that has now allowed him to bring veterinary students from Europe to experience and learn about the rich cultures of South Africa.
South Africa (06 August 2025) – It’s crazy to think how something like rejection, the very thing that many dread and fear so much, can be the very drive of a strong-willed spirit to keep pushing forward and achieve far greater things than they had ever imagined.
This best captures the journey of a young South African, Tsireledzo Munyai, known to many as Tsire, whose dream to study to become a veterinarian was met with numerous rejection letters from local universities.
But Tsireledzo never wavered or gave up on the dream. He pressed on until acceptance letters began to arrive from universities across the globe: New Zealand, Australia, Cyprus, and the United Kingdom.
Although finances and language barriers posed their fair share of challenges, Tsireledzo’s determination to study and fulfil his dream to address the shortage of veterinary services in rural communities remained his driving force.
In 2023, he was admitted into a veterinary programme in Hungary and took a leap of faith, selling his car, resigning from his SAPS job and buying a one-way ticket to Eastern Europe.
Today, in 2025, Tsireledzo is thriving! By sheer determination and a handful of part-time jobs, he’s supported his studies and built a vibrant network of friends.
And now, with a heart full of gratitude, he’s making good on a promise to give back, not only to his friends abroad, but to the land that raised him.
It all started with him inviting a few classmates to visit his home country for a hands-on cultural and educational exchange, hosted on a family-owned farm in the Eastern Cape.
But as word spread, so did the interest, from three students to 12, and then, in what felt like the blink of an eye, nearly 100 emails from students on the veterinary campus flooded in. It became clear that this venture would need structure.
Tsireledzo reached out to the Hungarian Embassy in South Africa, the German Embassy, and the South African Embassy in Hungary, as many of the interested students hailed from Germany. All three responded with enthusiastic support. And when his university got wind of the initiative, they offered both legitimacy and financial assistance, prompting him to develop a fair application process to select a final group of 24.
Although he shares with us that the ambitious initiative is in its pilot phase, the resulting 14-day programme is now formally in motion!
The 24 selected students will arrive in two cohorts: the first today, on 5 August, and the second on 19 August.
The itinerary will take them from the electric vibrance of Johannesburg, to experiential learning on the Eastern Cape farm, and finally, to the serene beauty of Cape Town, a full-circle South African experience in just two weeks.
What began as one man’s lonely journey toward his dream is now a living, breathing bridge between countries, between students, and between worlds. And at the centre of it all stands a young South African who refused to give up!
All Tsireledzo wanted was a chance; now he gets to give others something he never had: a new perspective, an unforgettable experience, and the courage to dream beyond borders.
South Africa, get ready. Tsireledzo is coming home, and he’s bringing the world with him!
