A group of dedicated Wits physio students have gone beyond the academic grind to offer joy, movement and mobility to disadvantaged children in Johannesburg.
Johannesburg, South Africa (02 August 2024) – Wits University physiotherapy students are making a remarkable difference in the lives of children with gross motor difficulties at the Afrika Tikkun ECD centre in Braamfontein.
Balancing demanding academic schedules, 50 students have dedicated their time to bringing joy and significant improvements to these young lives.
Regardless of their backgrounds, kids just wanna have fun, and these Wits students get that!
Each week, these compassionate young people devote their time to working with children who face gross motor difficulties, bringing joy and significant improvements to their lives.
Physiotherapy has a wealth of benefits, such as reducing pain, improving mobility, and enhancing mental well-being, which contribute to a higher overall quality of life. But these selfless students are offering these children something positive to look forward to every week and inspiring them to look beyond their disadvantaged circumstances – and that’s something we cannot help but admire.
The invaluable programme sees the students engage with the children at the Uthando Centre through a series of structured physiotherapy activities.
These activities have resulted in improvement across all areas of gross motor development, and the students have gained confidence and physical skills that were once challenging.
Afrika Tikkun praises the dedication of Wits University physiotherapy students, commending their work as a prime example of how young professionals can create positive change through community involvement.
