Theresa le Roux is tackling stereotypes by taking on the management of the FNB Madibaz Rugby Club. She feels it’s important to build a stable environment!
Theresa le Roux’s sporting career has spanned over more than 20 years. She has been focused on Netball and is one of NMMU’s most celebrated sports managers. So it was no surprise that she decided to take on the task, of what she calls a man’s job and took over the reins of the FNB Madibaz Rugby Club.
“I acknowledged that I could not achieve anything more within netball and felt that a change of focus would offer a new opportunity.”
If her Netball career is anything to go by, she will do the rugby club proud. Under her astute guidance, the SPAR Madibaz Netball Club notched up notable successes in tertiary and club tournaments all over the country and even abroad.
One of the highlights, she said, was when the “class of 2005” returned unbeaten from their tour to Birmingham in England. She also reigned the reputable Eastern Province league, winning it 24 times since the early nineties. Mentoring players that took part in the Proteas such as the notable Lana Krige, former captain Zanele Mdodana and Zanele Vimbela.
Although her past career is outstanding Theresa plans to focus fully on the job at hand.
“I think it is important to establish a good and stable coaching and management environment to help take the club forward.
“And, when it comes to development, I would like to see us making our mark in the EP Grand Challenge league as well as growing the women’s team,”
“I have an excellent coaching and management team who support me. If it weren’t for them, I would have thought twice about taking this job.”
We wish Theresa all the best going forward in this new field and hope that she leads the FNB Madibaz Rugby Club to great success.
