As they take on Ireland in their final ODI of the year, the Proteas Women reflect on a season defined by record-breaking performances and historic firsts.

Johannesburg, South Africa (19 December 2025) – The Wanderers Stadium will be a hive of activity as the Proteas Women step onto the field one last time this year when they face Ireland in the final ODI of the series. While the result may no longer affect the outcome, the match offers a fitting full stop to a year that redefined South African women’s cricket.

South Africa already secured an unassailable 2–0 series lead with a commanding 74-run victory in Gqeberha. Captain Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus both struck superb centuries as the Proteas posted a mammoth 375 for 6. This makes it the highest ODI total in the team’s history, surpassing their previous record set against Ireland back in 2017. Dane van Niekerk added to the spectacle!

That performance showed another chapter in a year filled with breakthroughs. Just weeks earlier, Laura led South Africa to a historic silver medal at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, guiding the Proteas into their first-ever final after a memorable victory over England in Guwahati.

Her remarkable leadership and consistency were further rewarded when she rose to the No. 1 spot in the ICC women’s ODI batting rankings.

As they prepare to take on Ireland once more, the Proteas Women do so with confidence. Win or lose, this final ODI serves as a celebration of a year that delivered records.
