What began as a simple request for school shoes fell on just the right hearts when the Beanies for Beings team realised a loving foster mother’s need was a small part of a much bigger story.
Northriding, South Africa (07 September 2026) – When you have spent a long time supporting people through difficult seasons or moments of lack, you begin to notice needs that others might miss. Often, what is first shared is only a small part of a much bigger story.
The Beanies for Beings team knows this well. So, when a woman walked into the charity shop asking whether they had a pair of school shoes for a young girl she knew, they sensed that this humble request was only the tip of the iceberg.
Beanies for Beings’ Megan Botha had been approached by a third party she referred to as Miss A, who had inquired about school shoes on behalf of a young girl.
“I had a feeling that there was a lot more needed than a pair of shoes,” Megan shared in a Facebook post.
“After asking Miss A a whole bunch of questions, which she then had to relay to Miss P, who had asked for the shoes, I discovered that there was so much more needed for this little family.”
Megan learned that Miss P, who works part-time as an office cleaner and lives far from her place of employment, does not have children of her own. Still, she had chosen to open her heart and her home as a foster mommy.
Miss P’s request was for her 13-year-old foster daughter, and Megan also learned that she was caring for a 12-month-old foster son.
“Her humility really touched me and moved me to do more and gift this chosen family with items I knew they would need, and other items, purely because they deserve to be blessed.”

Megan then went through the items in the charity shop and also bought additional items that would be appropriate for the young girl, as they did not have school shoes available at the time.
“It has been many, many years since my daughter was 13, and I just couldn’t decide what the young girl would like most, so I shopped, and shopped some more.”
Fortunately, the charity shop had cute baby boy clothing and toys, which the team packed for the little one. They also added beautifully knitted items, toiletries, and groceries for all three family members.
Miss A then arranged for a driver to collect the donation, which had been thoughtfully put together for Miss P and her little ones.
For Megan and the Beanies for Beings team, this was one of those donations they knew would make a real difference to a little family who had simply asked for school shoes and never expected to receive so much more.
“Humility, grace, and unconditional love are words that resonate with me with regard to this blessing,” Megan reflected.
That is the life-changing power donations can have for those who receive them. They replace lack with provision and create warm moments of connection, dignity, and compassion.
“Your donated items, your support when purchasing items from our charity shop, and your blessings enable us to make magical moments like this possible, and for that, we are immensely grateful,” Megan shared.
