Siya Kolisi has become the 12th person to receive an honours blazer from Grey High School where he was a student a few years back.
Siya Kolisi has had a stellar 2018. He was named the South African of the year on Heritage Day, Springbok captain and now he has been given an Honours Blazer by his old school, Grey High School.
Kolisi’s inspirational rise from a childhood in the Zwide Township in Port Elizabeth to becoming the first black captain of a Springbok side was lauded as one of the most significant moments in South African rugby history. It is this reason and many others, that were the deciding points for Grey High School.
Grey High School is an institution in Port Elizabeth, consistently regarded as one of the best public schools in South Africa, from both an academic and sporting perspective. The all-boys school was established in 1856 and is named after Sir George Edward Grey, a former Cape Colony Governor who also founded the renowned Grey College in Bloemfontein. Grey High’s most distinctive landmark is the famed clock tower, which stands prominently in the centre of the school grounds in the leafy suburb of Mill Park, looking over beautifully manicured lawns and brilliant white buildings, which house over 800 learners.
Kolisi was spotted by Grey High School for his talents on the rugby field. He was offered a spot at the school which solidified his destiny on the rugby field.
Fast forward to today, the school has honoured him with the 12th Honours Blazer. He attended the ceremony to accept his blazer and even took time out to pose for photos with the future men of our country.
The joy on every young man’s face can be felt through this picture. Siya is a wonderful role model and we are so happy to see his continued success.
