After another strong Sanlam Cape Town Marathon performance, Siya Mfanta is preparing for the Comrades Marathon while raising support for the Cart Horse Protection Association and the horses that help keep communities moving.

Cape Town, South Africa (05 June 2026) – One race is tough enough. Two is ambitious. Three of South Africa’s biggest road races in a single year? That is the challenge Siyabonga Mfanta has set for himself, all in support of the working cart horses cared for by the Cart Horse Protection Association (CHPA).

Fresh off an impressive performance at the 2026 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, where he crossed the finish line in under three hours, Siya is already turning his attention to his next major test: the Comrades Marathon on 14 June. It will be his first-ever Comrades Up Run, one of the most demanding challenges in distance running.

For Siya, his efforts are aimed at supporting the horses that help many families earn a living across Cape Town, often working long days in difficult conditions.

The CHPA provides veterinary care, feed, farriery services, owner education and welfare support to working cart horses, ensuring they receive the care and protection they need.

Siya says the cause keeps him motivated through every training session and race.

“This is bigger than running,” he says. “I run so they don’t have to suffer. I run because they can’t.”

Speaking after completing the Cape Town Marathon, Siya admitted he was pleasantly surprised by his performance.

“I really had a wonderful, great run this past weekend, my second Sanlam Marathon. I was taking it easy because I’m heading to Comrades in just a few weeks’ time. I was just cruising on the road, but when I saw my time at the finish, I was really proud of myself.”

He also thanked those who continue to support his fundraising efforts.

“Your support means a lot to us because my training is still ongoing. I really appreciate the love.”

Siya’s focus shifts from the streets of Cape Town to the hills between Pietermaritzburg and Durban. Every stride will carry a message of care for the horses that remain at the heart of his campaign.
