This week, #TheGoodStuff Huddle Up crew bring you Refilwe Community Project, situated near Lanseria, Johannesburg

In South Africa there are far too many vulnerable children in need of support, who are deserving of a safe environment. Children need to be loved and cared for and Refilwe is making this possible through their vast offerings.

“Our main focus is child care at Refilwe. Our God Parent Programme uses a family-based foster care model where we provide safe and stable home environments for 30 vulnerable children. We provide for up to 10 God Parent families living at Refilwe. Each family consists of between 4 to 6 children.”

Refilwe seeks to provide the best possible care to children in order to break the cycle of poverty and to empower the parents & individuals to become sustainable: spiritually, socially, emotionally and materially.

“The children receive quality education, beginning at the Refilwe Early Childhood Development Centre and continuing through very reputable local primary and secondary schools. “

Not only does this organisation care for those in need, they also provide community programmes, promote small business development while instilling respect, integrity, responsibility, accountability, work ethic.

What makes Refilwe special is its emphasis on sustainability while promoting micro economies within its structure in order to provide for those in their care.

With Skills Development Programmes in the Nursery, Worm Farm (Vermicast), Fruit Orchard, Horticulture and Carpentry, there is a variety of opportunities for volunteers to give of their time and share their knowledge all in promotion to generate income to support the existing programmes at Refilwe

We stumbled across Refilwe unexpectedly and we are glad that we did.

This place works and deserves support. http://www.refilwe.org/gallery/
