The Soweto Basketball team brought the game to the community with a simple challenge: step up and make the shot.

Soweto, South Africa (16 September 2026) – What happens when you take a basketball hoop into the streets of Soweto and start challenging unsuspecting people to shoot?

A bit of competition, a few laughs and, for those who can sink the shot, a little trophy to take home.

The Soweto Basketball team took their skills off the court and into the community, stopping people at random and putting their shooting abilities to the test.

All they had to do was step up, take the shot and see if they could find the bottom of the net.

Some nailed it, and some came close, but the fun part was in giving it a go.

It’s a simple way of bringing basketball to the streets, getting people involved and showing that you don’t necessarily need a full court to enjoy the game.

Looking at the reactions, they were more than happy to take on the challenge.
