provincial record

A Grade 4 athlete recently broke a provincial record thanks to the kind of speed that makes him not only a formidable opponent in tag at school but on prestigious tracks too.

Durbanville, South Africa (14 March 2024) — Dylan Calvert, a grade 4 learner at Meridian Pinehurst, has sprinted his way to a new provincial record!

Participating in the Western Cape Primary Schools Athletics Championship held in Paarl recently, 10-year-old Dylan from Kraaifontein made his hometown and school beyond proud. Exhibiting the kind of speed that we’re sure makes him any kid’s most challenging opponent in a game of tag, Dylan won the u10 80m and 100m sprint.

Even more thrilling for the young athlete, his speed not only earned him two gold wins but also welcomed a new record for the 80m, which he conquered in just 10.73 seconds.

Dylan’s school shared that he is also heading to Nationals, where we’re sure he’ll shine as brightly as the lightning star he is.

Meanwhile, in other news that made South African sports fans beyond proud, the African Games in Accra have seen Team South Africa rake in a whopping 77 medals so far, with our swimmers earning 46 medals for their recently completed heats. But the Games are still very much alive, with other sporting codes still active, meaning this is probably not the last medal update to get excited about.

And, who knows? In a few years, we’d hardly be surprised to see young Dylan represent the green and gold trakkies at the Games!
