After heading into the tournament with confidence, Jarid James has made his mark on the global stage, securing a bronze medal in the Para Men’s Singles at the inaugural Bowls World Cup.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (13 November 2025) – He said he was ready for the challenge, and he has certainly delivered!

South Africa’s very own Jarid James has claimed bronze in the Para Men’s Singles division at the Bowls World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Held at the Bukit Kiara National Lawn Bowl Centre, the event brought together top para and able-bodied bowlers from 12 nations, making it one of the most competitive tournaments on the global circuit outside of the Commonwealth Games and World Championships.

Before the competition began, Jarid spoke about being “super stoked” for the opportunity and looking forward to facing “extreme competition”. Words that proved prophetic as he bowled his way onto the podium. His calm focus and consistent form earned him well-deserved recognition among the world’s best.

Reflecting on the bigger picture, Jarid also noted how the sport’s growing inclusion on major international stages and conversations around the Paralympics and future Olympic bids signal exciting progress for the sport and for South African athletes.

While Jarid’s bronze adds another proud moment to Team SA’s campaign, the Fairtree Proteas have continued to impress across the board. Anneke Scheepers and Bridget Herselman triumphed in the Ladies Pairs against Malaysia, showing trademark composure to take the first set 4–3 and peel the second 4–4, sealing a brilliant win.

Meanwhile, Wayne Roberts delivered another stellar performance for South Africa, drawing the first set 5–5 before powering through the second 6–4. A strong finish that showcased the Green & Gold pride.

With Jarid’s podium finish and the team’s collective success, South Africa’s presence in Kuala Lumpur has been inspiring.
