Hours of dedicated training to perfect her craft have culminated in a career-defining honour for 14-year-old Kenzie Malan: to represent her country as a team member and soloist at the Youth World Artistic Swimming Championships happening in Greece this month!
Johannesburg, South Africa (15 August 2025) – This month, talented artistic swimmer Kenzie Malan is poised to take on one of her biggest and career-defining competitions yet.
In a feat worthy of applause, the 14-year-old has been selected to represent South Africa in the Youth World Artistic Swimming Championships in Greece from 23 to 30 August – not only as a team member, but as the soloist for South Africa!
The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is a testament to her hard work, dedication, talent and resilience – something her mom, Joanne, vouches for.
“She trains daily and has committed everything to her sport. As her mom, I have supported her every step of the way, personally covering the costs of multiple training camps in Cape Town and all the preparations leading up to this point.”

Following unforeseen disappointments with a sponsor, Kenzie’s family is in a race against time to raise R70,000 for her travel expenses. With only R31,393 raised so far and the competition date nearing, the pressure is mounting.
“We still have to apply for her Schengen visa urgently and cannot do so without proof of payment and bookings, which we now simply can’t afford without your help,” appeals Joanne.
A single mom determined to see her daughter showcase her talent globally, Joanne has launched a crowdfunding page to rally support for Kenzie.
“For those of you who know Kenzie, you will know how dedicated she is and what this means to her.
“No amount is too small. Every rand will bring us closer to getting Kenzie to Worlds!”
Greece is just a wave of kindness away for this young athlete. To support this cause, visit the BackaBuddy page here.
