The South African international scored her first league goal of the season for Glasgow City, and now turns her focus to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Glasgow, Scotland (24 February 2026) – While South African fans prepare for Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), one of their own is making her marking abroad.

South African international Linda Motlhalo continues to make her mark in Scotland, scoring her first league goal of the season as Glasgow City secured a commanding 4-0 win over Motherwell.

The victory sees City heading into the league split undefeated and sitting five points clear at the top of the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League.

For Linda, the game carried extra significance.

“I’ve been wanting it and I’ve been working on getting it and it finally happened today. So I’m really happy for that.”

The midfielder has been a key figure for the team, making 21 appearances across all competitions as they push for domestic success.

Her journey with Glasgow City has already included a league title in the 2022/23 campaign before a stint in the United States with Racing Louisville. After returning to Scotland, she committed her future to the club, signing a new contract that keeps her in Glasgow until 2027.

Now, attention shifts from club to country.

She is part of the provisional South African squad preparing for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

“Going back to South Africa, I feel very happy to be representing my country and WAFCON is a big tournament, so I’m looking forward to it and hopefully it’s going to be a good one for me.”

For the 2022 champions, WAFCON is a gateway to the global stage.

“Playing in the WAFCON, it’s very huge for me because it opens a lot of opportunities. If we do well, we go to the World Cup and get to compete against the best teams. So it’s a great opportunity for me and for the team.”

As Glasgow City chase league glory and South Africa prepare for continental glory, Linda finds herself balancing two high-stakes ambitions. Leading at the top of the league and aiming to shine on Africa’s biggest stage once again.
