Marathon, but make it a rescue mission! Mo and Asgar will be running 42.2km in a costume replica of an SPCA rescue vehicle to raise enough money to fuel a real Inspectorate vehicle for a full year of rescue!

Cape Town, South Africa (08 October 2025) – More often than not, animal rescues and welfare work need a trusted set of wheels to get from point A to B. And those wheels need fuel to move.

Doing their part to ensure the Cape of Good Hope SPCA is always ready for the road and the journey to the distressed, abandoned and neglected, Muhammed Asgar Dalvie and Muhammad Sanglay, affectionately known as Mo and Asgar, will be running the 42.2km Cape Town marathon in more than just athleisure and trainers. They’ll be in a costume replica of an SPCA rescue vehicle they’ve affectionately nicknamed Bokkie!

Why? To raise R42,000 – Enough to fuel a real Inspectorate vehicle for a full year of rescue!

One SPCA Inspectorate vehicle travels up to 60,000km each year, responding to reports of cruelty, rushing to emergencies, and enforcing animal protection laws, the SPCA shares.

“Keeping just one vehicle roadworthy, licensed, insured and operational costs R120,000 annually. Fuel alone makes up R42,000 of that cost.

“Our Inspectors stand ready to act 24/7, 365 days a year. But they cannot move without fuel.”

The marathon takes place on 19 October. Every kilometre the determined duo runs represents R1,000 in fuel that keeps a real rescue vehicle on the road. Because every rescue starts with a car that starts.
