Gauteng Modern Pentathlon celebrates athletes competing in the UIPM Biathle-Triathle-Laser Run World Championships.

Mossel Bay, South Africa (19 December 2025) – South African modern pentathlon athletes delivered a standout performance on home soil as Mossel Bay hosted the UIPM Biathle, Triathle and Laser Run World Championships in December 2025. The event marked a historic first, combining all three disciplines into a single mega-championship, and Gauteng Modern Pentathlon celebrates athletes who rose to the occasion with medal-winning performances, family milestones and dominant displays across age groups.

Set against the iconic backdrop of Santos Beach, athletes are navigating demanding run-swim-run, shoot-swim-run and shoot-run formats. For many competitors, it was their first taste of world championship action.

A Family Affair

One of the competitors is the Strydoms. One of the most memorable stories of the week belonged to the Strydom family, with Ruan, Werner and Simon all competing at the same World Championships. Taking part in Biathle, Triathle and Laser Run, the trio showcased remarkable versatility and resilience.

The Lotz Family Leads From the Front

The Lotz family also left a significant mark on the championships. Veteran Protea athlete Corne Lotz was in imperious form, dominating the Masters 50+ division with an extraordinary six gold medals. His success spanned both individual and team events in Triathlon and Laser Run.

Christiaan Eugene Lotz Jnr impressed in the Junior Youth category at his first World Championships, delivering a solid performance and continuing the family’s proud legacy.

Silver Success for Stephanie Verschoor

Stephanie Verschoor produced a superb performance in the Junior Women’s division, securing a silver medal in a highly competitive, world-class field.

Rossouw Reigns in the Masters Ranks

Rounding off an outstanding championship for Gauteng athletes was Tiaan Rossouw, one of South Africa’s most successful Masters competitors in modern pentathlon sub-disciplines. Already a reigning world champion in multiple categories, Rossouw once again proved his quality in Mossel Bay.

From family triumphs to individual excellence, Gauteng Modern Pentathlon athletes made sure to have their names remembered.
