Proudly sporting green and gold, Sekgodiso ran a world-leading indoor national record ahead of Ethiopia’s Nigist Getachew and Portugal’s Patricia Silva, securing her country’s first women’s world indoor gold medal, World Athletics confirms.

The 23-year-old’s dedication to rigorous training paid off with a strong performance in the four-lap race. She finished at 1:58.40 (That’s also the fastest time in the world this year!). This impressive achievement admittedly surprised her, as Sekgodiso was competing alongside some of the fastest runners in the world.

“But I believed that I could make it, and to make it and grab that gold medal, I’m proud,” said Sekgodiso.

“I did dream of this, I’ve been working so hard for this. We have a long season ahead and I believe there’s still more to come.”

Congratulations to our very own! Prudence, you ran with heart, executed your race perfectly, sprinted to gold and most importantly; are living out your dream!
