The 14-year-old defender has emerged as one of South Africa’s most exciting young prospects after standout performances at home and impressive trials abroad.

Johannesburg, South Africa (18 March 2026) – From local pitches to European training grounds, 14-year-old Ndidi Nzwana John is quickly proving that he’s one to watch.

The young defender from Flair Feet Stars FC has been turning heads after a standout run that’s seen him move from grassroots football in Johannesburg to trials with top Italian clubs. And if his recent performances are anything to go by, this is only the beginning.

Ndidi first grabbed attention at the WSH Elite Cup South Africa 2025, where he played a key role in helping his side lift the trophy. That performance opened the door to Europe, where he recently trained with AS Roma and Frosinone Calcio. Despite the challenges of travel and adapting to a new environment, he wasted no time making an impression.

His agent, Jorge Abong, praised the young player’s talent.

“Ndidi is an exceptional talent. Even after a long journey and dealing with jet lag and cold weather, he impressed the coaches and even scored during training.”

Back home, Ndidi’s football story began at just four years old. Originally a striker, he was later moved into defence. And let’s just say that attacking instinct still shows.

He’s also continued to build his experience locally, including time in the Gauteng Development League, as he steadily climbs through the ranks. Reflecting on his time abroad, Ndidi described the experience as a defining moment in his young career.

“I learned new skills, experienced a new culture, enjoyed Italian cuisine, and saw world-class infrastructure. I would definitely love to return and pursue my career there.”

The younger footballer is slowly starting to look right at home with the momentum he has built.
