South Africa’s triathletes proved their grit, bringing home titles, medals, and plenty of pride on the global stage.
South Africa (01 October 2025) – South Africa’s triathletes are flying the flag high across the globe, with standout performances this past weekend at the XTERRA World Championships in Italy, the Asia Triathlon Cup in Taiwan, and the Africa Triathlon Sprint Championships in Egypt.
At the XTERRA World Championships in Molveno, Italy, it was a showcase of talent on one of the toughest off-road triathlon courses. A freezing swim, a mountain bike climb, and a forest run. Rising star Nadia van Wyk delivered a sensational race to claim the Junior Women’s XTERRA World Champion title, powering to the front on the bike before running clear of her rivals to the roar of South African legend Conrad Stoltz. Nathan Chase added to the celebrations with a hard-fought silver medal in the men’s event, even overcoming a wetsuit mishap in transition.
South Africa’s young athletes also impressed, with Anthony Clayton finishing 9th in the Junior Men’s race and Albertus van Zyl battling to 34th. Lena Wiroth showed her class too, taking 5th place in the Junior Ladies category.
Meanwhile, there was also action in Taiwan, Conrad Visagie put in strong effort at the Asia Triathlon Cup Yilan, finishing 26th in 55:49, just over four minutes behind the winner.
And in Egypt, South Africa dominated at the Africa Triathlon Sprint Championships. Shanae Williams stormed to victory in the elite women’s race with a commanding four-minute lead, while the men’s team put in strong performances. Matthew van Coller 4th, Aiden Petersen 6th, Bongani Tshabalala 12th and Chat Uys 13th.
