A behind-the-scenes moment made South Africans chop onions after Banyana Banyana got the most heartwarming surprise worth a roaring crowd!

Wellington, New Zealand (27 July, 2023)—The FIFA Women’s World Cup has already seen a lot of excitement, bravery and moments on the field to be proud of. However, for the team waving South Africa’s flag high in soccer, a moment worth a roaring crowd came about recently as the Banyana Banyana team got the most heartwarming surprise.

After a slight drop in spirits after putting up a good fight in the unvictorious match against Sweden, something encouraging made the team and South Africa remember who we’re dealing with in the best way.

Walking into their dressing room in Wellington, the team was met with wallpapered photos representing ultimate encouragement. The visuals of them as a team and as individuals transformed the dressing room into a place of synergy and team spirit, and reminded the queen squad of their champion energy.

After all, they are the champions of the African continent!

Behind the surprise was team manager Lauren Duncan who wanted them to feel special and also, at home per TimesLive.

People reacted to the moment sharing that they were ‘chopping onions’ in response (tearing up) while others shared messages filled with encouragement for Friday’s game against Argentina.

“You carry all of Africa’s hopes and dreams. We are rooting for you and we will be up at 2am to watch all the action. Put up a good fight!”—@benzantsi/Twitter.

“They must be reminded that they are champions. It’s beautiful to watch.”—@Jsmash_SA1/Twitter.

“Fully behind this special squad! Go out there and make us proud.”—@JoyLethabo8/Twitter.

With a spirit like this in their collective stride, we know our soccer queens will give the next match everything they’ve got and we’re already proud!
