Making their racing debut was the Westville Boys’ “Griffins”, who took on the Dezzi Raceway to compete at a KZN Endurance Car Race in their souped-up VW Golf.
Port Shepstone, South Africa (22 September 2024) – Two Westville Boys’ High School learners gave their books a break to take on their most exhilarating challenge yet!
Brett and Maahir, known as The Griffins, made history with an exceptional performance at a KZN Endurance Car Race, achieving what no other Westville Boys’ School students had done before.
The Griffins showcased their talent at the Backdraft 1-hour race at one of the province’s most popular racing circuits, the Dezzi Raceway in Port Shepstone.
Despite challenging morning conditions during qualifying, Brett skillfully secured the 6th position on the grid out of 32 cars with their VW Golf.
“Maahir’s exceptional driving skills in the dry afternoon conditions led to intense battles with tough competition from cobras and BMW.
“After a driver change, Brett finished third, just 1.6 seconds behind the second-place finisher,” the school explained.
The race spanned a distance of 98 kilometres, and the team crossed the finish line in 16th place out of 32 starters, securing an impressive third place in their class.
It was a study break like no other, and the remarkable achievement demonstrates the Griffins’ determination and skill in the world of endurance car racing! Well done, boys!
