The Wildeklawer TUT Top 14 delivered a wave of standout performances, with young athletes breaking meeting records and setting the tone for an exciting season ahead.
Pretoria, South Africa (03 February 2026) – South Africa’s school athletics season burst into spectacular fashion at the Wildeklawer TUT Top 14 meeting, where a string of standout performances and broken records underlined just how deep the country’s junior talent pool is.
This spectacle was held at Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria. It delivered speed runs across multiple age groups, leaving athletics followers with plenty to be excited about as the season gains momentum.
One of the standout performances came from Cody Benn of Pretoria Boys High, who produced a blistering run in the Boys U14 200m. Cody crossed the line in 22.61 seconds, a time that not only secured victory but also erased the meeting record previously held by Kwena Mojapelo. The run confirmed Cody’s reputation as one of the country’s most exciting young sprinters, following his silver medal at last year’s SA Primary Schools Championships.
Middle-distance events also delivered fireworks, with Tiisetso Malungane of Curro Hazeldean producing one of the most dominant performances of the meeting. Competing in the Boys U16 3 000m, Tiisetso stopped the clock at 8:22.75, smashing the existing meeting record by more than 17 seconds. The margin alone highlighted the authority of the run and signalled his intent early in the season.
Pause. At speeds like this, you would swear these young athletes had rockets strapped to their spikes.
In the longer sprint events, Stiaan Myburgh of Kempton Park made a powerful statement in the Boys U19 400m hurdles. Stiaan claimed victory in 50.74 seconds, lowering the previous meeting record and opening his 2026 season in emphatic fashion. His performance suggested both sharp early-season form and strong potential for further improvement as the year progresses.
Blink, and you might actually miss them crossing the line.
Sprint excellence was again on display in the Boys U16 200m, where Jaydon Fairlie of Noordheuwel delivered a superb run to set a new meeting record.
We see multiple records falling, the Wildeklawer TUT Top 14 meeting served as an early-season reminder of the depth within South African school athletics.
