Su & Pat Raise Over R34k for Children With Cancer Through Hyrox

The Jozi duo smashed one of the toughest fitness challenges and turned it into hope for children facing cancer!

Johannesburg, South Africa (19 June 2026) – Susan and Patsy recently crossed the finish line of the Hyrox Pro Doubles Women’s Challenge with rainbows and smiles!

In just 40 days, the pair has raised an incredible R34,562 for Rainbows and Smiles, a local organisation that supports children diagnosed with cancer and life-threatening illnesses, along with their families and caregivers.

Hyrox is an intense fitness competition that combines running with demanding workout stations that put endurance, strength and determination to the ultimate test. Working in teams, participants move through challenges like rowing, sledge pushes, burpee broad jumps and lunges. It is one of the fastest-growing fitness races in the world!

What’s even more impressive is that Susan and Patsy took on the challenge after just one month of training.

Rainbows and Smiles celebrated their achievement, sharing gratitude for the full commitment and compassion the duo poured into the fundraiser.

“Patsy shared that on the cold, hard mornings when getting out of bed felt impossible, she thought of the children with cancer. Their courage reminded her that each new day is a gift. Thank you for carrying our children in your hearts, for believing in our cause, and for turning your strength into hope for others. Your kindness and compassion mean more than words can express.”

Rainbows and Smiles was established more than 23 years ago, inspired by the life of Jed Brady Suckling, who bravely battled brain cancer for more than three years. According to the organisation, one of Jed’s greatest joys was making other children smile while they underwent treatment in the hospital.

That’s what the charity does today. It provides emotional, social and financial support to children diagnosed with cancer or life-threatening illnesses. Through volunteers and partnerships with healthcare professionals, the organisation assists families in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Pietermaritzburg and Durban, helping ease some of the heavy burdens that come with a childhood cancer diagnosis.

Thanks to people like Susan and Patsy, Rainbows and Smiles can continue its life-saving work. The organisation says it is especially grateful that Patsy will continue her involvement as an ambassador, bringing hope for children and families who need the support.
