This February, Footprints 4 Sam is inviting the public to turn every run, walk, cycle, or swim into meaningful support for children living with life-limiting illnesses.

South Africa (04 February 2026) – February is the month of love, and this year, Footprints 4 Sam is taking that spirit to the pool with ‘Swim 4 Sam 2026’, a heart-driven initiative aimed at supporting children living with life-limiting illnesses.

What started as a personal mission in memory of Sam, a beautiful baby who spent his short life in hospital, has blossomed into a nationwide movement.

Footprints 4 Sam is calling on the public to get involved. Not just as spectators, but as active participants in their sport for good initiatives. Whether you run, cycle, walk, or swim, there’s a way for everyone to contribute and make a real difference.

Melissa Williams Platt, one of the driving forces behind the Trust, explained

“We all need a reason to get out of bed and go for that run or walk, if you know you’ve got to do that 30K for Sam, it’s about more than just sweat. It’s purpose.”

This year, the sporty spotlight is on ‘Swim 4 Sam 2026’, where Daniel Stahljans, Phil “PJ” Clark, Daniel Venter, and Will Ridge are each taking on 30 kilometres in the pool during February. All funds raised will support the Trust’s expanding initiatives, including the launch of new Johannesburg vehicles to help families get to essential medical care.

Participation is made easy and interactive, too. Through platforms like Strava, supporters can track their own challenges, share updates, and even get sponsors involved. Think of this as combining Instagram and Strava.

“It’s a wonderful way for people to run with purpose, swim with purpose, do charity in every month’s steps.”

Melissa highlights that this approach ensures everyone can contribute in a way that works for them, turning ordinary exercise into meaningful impact.

Footprints 4 Sam also reminds participants of the privilege behind everyday actions.

“To be able to run, swim, or breathe without effort is a true privilege.”

With a fundraising goal of R40,000, hashtags like #Sweat4Sam and #BreatheForLife are rallying points for the community. And while February might be about romance for some, for Footprints 4 Sam, it’s also about love. But in action.
