Blessing’s Jean Art is all about being colourful and creative; the purpose is to brighten up someone’s life, to give them hope and courage and make them happy and smile!

Western Cape, South Africa (20 February 2022) – Blessing Phiri’s journey as an artist has been beautiful and difficult.

Until the age of 14, he lived in Zimbabwe under tough conditions. School was, in his words, “not that pleasing or exciting.” He used art as his escape and discovered his creativity and artistic side of himself.

“I was so good with handwriting at school, I started drawing words making them artistic, Then I met a friend who introduced me to cartoons like Dragon Ball Z, and I started drawing them, and I fall in love with drawing.”

He moved to Cape Town 7 years ago and was introduced to the incredible Intle Art programme. An NGO that enables aspiring young artists from the Imizamo Yethu and Harbour communities of Hout Bay to develop artistic and entrepreneurial skills by producing art for sale.

Here Blessing honed his skills and started brightening up jeans and denim jackets with his incredible art.

“My art is all about being colourful and creative; the purpose is to brighten up someone’s life, to give them hope and courage and make them happy and smile.”

Bos Ice Tea recently partnered with Intle Art to launch its new flavoured hot tea and met Blessing. They were so struck by his talent and his jean art they’ve approached Blessing to be one of their “Makers”. To this end, they are sponsoring 5 Bos followers to have their jeans painted by Blessing and help bring exposure to this art and business.

“Our brand is all about being free and adding colour to life – and Blessing’s jean art is the perfect expression of that.” – Dani du Toit, Bos Marketing Manager.

To start the ball rolling, Blessing has already painted a pair of jeans for the Bos head office and for Good Things Guy.
