South Africa’s Chin Woo Kungfu athletes delivered an impressive performance at the national championships, bringing home 17 medals.

 

Johannesburg, South Africa (29 July 2026) – The SA Chin Woo Kungfu Team brought fighting spirit to the UWMAF Martial Arts National Championships in Johannesburg, returning home with an impressive 17 medals.

Competing at the championships in Norwood, the team claimed an outstanding 10 gold medals, five silver medals and two bronze medals, delivering a performance that showcased the strength of the athletes.

The team also made a memorable impression during the opening proceedings, where their group Kungfu performance was enjoyed by guests, including Minister Counsellor Zhao Haiyun from the Chinese Embassy.

The team’s achievements were shared by Junaid Chafeker, who has built an accomplished career in the martial arts world and continues to use his experience to support and develop others. His involvement in nurturing upcoming athletes reflects the community spirit at the heart of martial arts.

The championships brought together practitioners from a range of traditional martial arts, including Kungfu, Karate and traditional kickboxing, creating an opportunity for athletes to compete, learn from one another and celebrate the shared values of discipline and respect.

The SA Chin Woo Kungfu Team’s success was made possible through the dedication of its athletes, coaches, team management and supporters, who worked together both on and off the competition floor.
