Johannesburg, South Africa (09 July 2025) – South Africans just don’t know when to stop winning. From harmonies on global stages to heroic finishes on the track. South Africans are proving time and time again that excellence is in their blood. The phrase “NO DNA, just RSA” has become more than a trending hashtag, but the national anthem of pride across competitions worldwide.
Here are some of the recent golden moments where South Africans made the world sing along to Nkosi Sikekel’ iAfrika.
1. Stellenbosch University Choir Dominates with 3 Gold Medals in Denmark
The award-winning University of Stellenbosch Choir showed why they are a force to be reckoned with at the INTERKULTUR European Choir Games and Grand Prix of Nations 2025. Claiming three gold medals competing against 132 choirs from 33 countries. Scoring high scores of 96.56% in Adult Choirs, 95.69% in Jazz, Pop, Show and 95.31% in Musica Sacra a Cappella. 2. Redhill School Under-17 Netball Team Win
For the very first time in history, a South African school was invited to the World Schools Netball Cup, and Redhill made sure to leave a bold statement. In a tournament filled with three intense back-to-back matches, beating Sedbergh School from England in the final was their final hurdle to claim the crown.

3. Clean Sweep in Mixed Doubles
Team South Africa delivered a historic performance in the Mixed Doubles table tennis, sweeping the podium with a commanding display of dominance. The squad clinched Gold, Silver and two bronze at the Region 5 Youth Games.

In a first for South Africa, we made a powerful statement at the 2025 Commonwealth Billiards Championship held in Mauritius, clinching multiple medals across cue sport disciplines. South Africa made a commanding debut at what was the first-ever competition of its kind. Proving that their precision is sharp, Craig Bouwer won the Men’s 10-Ball Pool, while Senzo Gumede won the Men’s Blackball.
5. 16-year-old 3000m Champion
At just 16 and in grade 10, Michael Bekker dominated the track in Swakopmund at the Region 5 Youth Games with a high-powered performance where he took early control of the race and brought home a gold medal in a personal best of 8:36:91.

6. Checkmate for SA’s Top Schools
Nine schools have claimed provincial gold in the 2025 Alexforbes Battle Boards Chess Championship, emerging as the top strategic minds in their regions. These champions now lead 64 teams into the national stage on the 26 July.
“Chess is gaining momentum in South African schools,” says Andre Lewaks, President of Chess South Africa. “The response to this tournament has been phenomenal – not only in numbers but in the quality of play. We’re building a strong culture of strategic competition that stretches across provinces.”

7. NeoKo Judo Strikes Gold and Build Community
In just months, NeoKo Judo has gone from a startup club in Bryanston to a symbol of excellence and empowerment, now capped by co-founder Neo’s recent gold medal at the African Judo Open in Pretoria. This historic win highlights NeoKo’s rising influence in South Africa’s judo scene and showcases home-grown talent and dedication.

8. South Africa Strikes Gold with Show-Stopping Street Dance Moves
After making the top four, South Africa danced its way to gold at the 2025 Dance World Cup in Spain, with the senior team winning the Street Dance category. Competing against over 8,500 dancers from 50+ countries, their performance stood out for its energy, precision, and local style. You can read the story here.
9. SA Shines at Pan African Maths Olympiad
Team South Africa topped the 2025 Pan African Mathematics Olympiad in Botswana, winning first place overall and sweeping top individual medals. Three golds were earned by Erik Senekal, James Prins, and Noah Greenblatt, with silver for Olivia Castleden and Ruth Trimble, and bronze for WanRu Zhou. Trimble, Castleden, and Zhou also secured medals in the Girls’ Division.
10. Coetzee Clinches Gold at African Open, Books Bahrain Ticket
Jason Coetzee delivered a flawless performance at the 2025 Rotax African Open, winning gold in the DD2 class and earning his place at the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in Bahrain. Coetzee dominated the weekend at Zwartkops Kart Raceway, completing a clean sweep across qualifying and both pre-finals. This marks his second appearance at the Grand Finals
