Retail Workers Go Above and Beyond to Return Wallet Left in a Trolley

When Marie Sukers called back an unknown number from her call log while retracing her steps after losing her wallet, she never could have imagined the lengths to which the two young men on the other end of the line would go to return it to her.

Cape Town, South Africa (23 September 2025) – Many of us have experienced that uncomfortable hot rush of internal panic that first hits just moments after realising you’ve lost one of your valuables in a public space. It’s that moment you hurriedly search through your handbag or pat around your pockets as you try to recall when and where you last had it.

Marie Sukers experienced this very unsettling panic recently when she realised she had lost her wallet after a trip to a local shopping mall.

“I lost my wallet with every single important document in it, and all bank cards,” Marie shared.

Marie only realised this dilemma much later in the evening of the day she’d been out. She did, however, also notice a few missed calls on her phone.

“While trying to track my movements mentally, I absentmindedly called the last missed call first (an old school habit taught in corporate, to always try and call people back the same day).”

To her surprise, a young, strong voice identified itself as Brandon from Mr Price, answered on the other end of the line.

Brandon had found Marie’s wallet outside in a shopping trolley. When he couldn’t find a contact number, he and a colleague decided to Google Marie in an effort to try to get hold of her and get the abandoned wallet back to her.

“I was so relieved, and pleasantly surprised! We have quite a few good men left in this country! And of course I attribute their character and good citizenship to their mothers, Marie’s said.

Marie expressed her appreciation for the mothers who raised these two honest and hardworking young men, even tagging the fashion retail chain they worked for, and advocating that they deserved an award or an opportunity to further develop their careers.

“Brandon Du Preez and Jermaine Johnson are my heroes!! They literally tower over me .. strong, honest and raised right,” she said.

What a beautiful showcase of young men who, by the request of no one, went above and beyond to help a woman get her wallet and important personal documents back.

If you doubted whether there are still good people out there, here you have it! Well done to these two gentlemen who didn’t look the other way, brought relief to a woman’s moment of panic and led by example.
