No life is too small to save, especially for real-life heroes like Ethan.
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (05 August 2026) – It’s been quite the eventful week for feathered friends, with heroes at every corner.
Just as officers in Cape Town helped an Egyptian goose family to safety from a peak-hour traffic jam, another bird found itself in need of a helping hand in Durbs too. This time, it was a tiny chick, a curious cat and a young man named Ethan.
After finding the chick in the cat’s grasp and unsure where it had come from, Ethan knew for certain that it needed help. So he scooped up the little bird and headed straight to the Kloof and Highway SPCA.
By the time night fell, the chick was safe from danger under a warm heat lamp with a full tummy and the care it needed to recover. All in a day’s work.
Sharing the story on social media, the SPCA thanked Ethan for acting so quickly.
“Every small act of kindness can make a world of difference.
This afternoon, Ethan arrived at our SPCA carrying a tiny chick he had just rescued from a cat. Unsure where the little one had come from, he knew it deserved a chance and brought it straight to us.
Tonight, our newest little patient is warm under a heat lamp, has a full tummy, and is safe.
