Traffic Services, Law Enforcement and an Animal Welfare Society inspector worked together to get the dog to safety.
Cape Town, South Africa (01 October 2026) – A terrifying dash between cars on one of Cape Town’s busiest roads has ended with a much happier chapter for one tiny Maltese.
The Animal Welfare Society of South Africa says one of its inspectors, Crystal, was travelling along the R300 over the weekend when she spotted City of Cape Town Traffic Services attempting to rescue the frightened dog from the road.
With vehicles moving around her, the little dog was in serious danger. Law Enforcement was called in to help block the road, creating a safer space for the rescue team to finally get her out of traffic.
Once she was safely rescued, she was taken back to the Animal Welfare Society’s hospital, where she could be examined and given the treatment and care she needed.
She was also in need of a little TLC, receiving grooming and plenty of attention after what had clearly been a frightening experience. Upon arrival, the team then named her Haven.
When she first arrived, Haven was terrified. But with patience and a calm environment, she has slowly started to relax and show more of her personality.
And now, this little survivor is ready for the next chapter.
Haven will soon be looking for a forever home where she can continue to feel safe, loved and protected from the dangers she experienced on the streets.
The Animal Welfare Society also thanked Traffic Services, Law Enforcement and Inspector Crystal for working together to bring her to safety.
