Tom Cruise has been spotted in Ladysmith where he is filming scenes for his next big action movie, using the Drakensberg as the backdrop.
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (05 April 2022) – Tom Cruise is on the move in South Africa, filming scenes for the next instalment of Mission Impossible.
In February, he made fans day by stopping to chat with them in Hoedspruit. He had arrived back via helicopter and before being driven to his accommodation, he made his way over to talk to everyone.
If you didn’t know, Tom Cruise is currently in South Africa. Every WhatsApp group has shared the meme that the new Mission Impossible movie is about renewing a South African licence.
While that may not be the film’s actual plot, parts really are being filmed in South Africa. He started the year in Hoedspruit and is now cruising around in the KwaZulu-Natal mountains.
Muzi Buthelezi, a video journalist, captured a few images of Cruise and the team in the area, featured alongside his helicopter.

Officials from the KZN have been excited to share how the star’s presence is a big boost for tourism.
Film Commission Chief Operating Officer, Jackie Motsepe and Brett Tungay, the provincial FEDHASA Chairperson, both feel the choice of KZN will be a big boost for the province and leisure travel to the area. Motsepe encourages the film industry to consider the KZN for their cinematic projects in future.
“Tom Cruise’s choice of a film location underscores what we continue to communicate to the world that KZN is one of the best film destinations in Africa and the world.
“When big film producers choose to shoot in the province, the local municipality, local communities and businesses benefit as they participate in the opportunities that are created as a result.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank and commend the community of Bergville and Drakensburg for working with the ‘Mission: Impossible’ team and giving them the best experiences in KZN,” – Jackie Motsepe
The Drakensburg is a stunning part of South Africa and we cannot wait to see how the film crew capture its beauty and sweeping mountains.
