When a terrified pup found himself trapped in a deep, abandoned pool, an entire community rallied together to feed and comfort him until rescuers could pull him to safety.

Soshanguve, South Africa (19 July 2026) – On Wednesday, hope finally arrived for a little pup whose curiosity had landed him in a terrifying situation.

The adventurous little guy had wandered far from home, somehow ending up trapped at the bottom of an old, abandoned swimming pool. Although the pool was fortunately dry, its depth made it nearly impossible for concerned onlookers to reach him, leaving the helpless dog stranded at the bottom.

Unable to pull him out safely themselves, the community refused to let him suffer alone.  A Bultfontein local eventually reached out to the Soshanguve Animal Shelter. A team responded to the call with urgency to rescue the pup that had been trapped in the pool for two days.

“The community tried their best to help, but because he was frightened and acting defensively, they couldn’t safely get him out,” explained Tebogo Maredi, Soshanguve Animal Shelter Founder.

Even though the community members weren’t able to get the dog out themselves, the predicament brought out the very best in the local neighbourhood. Tebogo was especially moved by their compassion as they made sure to give the dog food and water while waiting for help.

“Our team arrived and, with patience and care, managed to rescue him without any injuries or complications. We are happy to share that this brave fur baby is now safe with us, where he will receive the love, care and attention he deserves,” Tebogo said.

The Soshanguve animal hero expressed his gratitude to every person who refused to look the other way and chose to respond with care and kindness to this innocent life in its hour of need.

“Together we can continue making a difference one rescue at a time,” he said.
