What greater time to reflect on life’s greatest blessings than on your 60th birthday? Deon made a special contribution to honour one of his biggest gifts – his beloved Tank.

Cape Town, South Africa (11 September 2026) – Deon’s love for his late pet now goes into keeping many more vulnerable animals fed and cared for.

Mother City resident Deon celebrated his 60th birthday recently. To mark the milestone, he wanted to give back in honour of one of his greatest gifts of all – his beloved doggie Tank.

In memory of his four-legged companion, Dylan supported local animal welfare organisation 1 Kennel at a Time by making a generous donation of R5850 towards its work in Ocean View township.

The organisation has been helping pets and their people for twelve years. It takes a community-based approach to animal welfare, where it helps families care for the pets they already love rather than removing animals from their homes.

Its work has included providing kennels and food, assisting with sterilisation and veterinary care, educating pet owners and keeping an eye on vulnerable animals in Ocean View and the nearby Red Hill.

Deon blew out the candles on his 60th birthday cake, knowing that his donation, made in Tank’s honour, will benefit the many families who rely on 1 Kennel at a Time for support. He also donated two bags of dog food to keep hungry bellies fed!

The love we have for our lost pets stays with us for years after they’re gone. Perhaps a lifetime. Putting that love toward a greater purpose is a wonderful thing that honours them, and a fantastic way to kick off your 60s!

“We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Deon for his generous donation of R5850 towards our work in Ocean View, made in celebration of his 60th birthday and in loving memory of his beloved dog, Tank.” shares the organisation. “What a beautiful way to celebrate a milestone while honouring a very special friend who will always have a place in his heart. Your kindness will help us continue helping animals in need, and Tank’s memory will live on through the lives of the animals who benefit from your generosity.”
