“A.N.G.I.E.” is a sketch by comedians Bouwer Bosch and Themba Robin, satirically recruiting South Africans to a new defence force while humorously addressing educational and societal issues.

South Africa (08 July 2024) – South Africans have a unique gift for finding humour even in the most challenging situations. It’s a coping mechanism deeply rooted in the country’s culture, helping people navigate through both the highs and lows of life.

This resilient spirit of laughter has once again come to the fore, this time in the form of a side-splitting sketch that is winning hearts and sparking laughter nationwide.

Angie Motshekga, the long-serving Minister of Basic Education, has often been in the spotlight for the controversial 30% pass mark rate, a policy that has become synonymous with her name. Known for her tenure in the education sector, she has recently been moved to the role of Minister of Defense and Military Veterans in the GNU cabinet. This unexpected shift has left many scratching their heads and ignited a flurry of reactions on social media, with some finding the move particularly bizarre.

Enter Bouwer Bosch and Themba Robin, two of South Africa’s most beloved comedians. Bosch, a talented musician and actor, and Robin, a comedian and actor known for his sharp wit, have teamed up to create a hilarious new sketch titled “A.N.G.I.E.”

This satirical “ad” brilliantly parodies the recruitment of South Africans into a new defence force, turning the peculiar cabinet reshuffle into comedic gold.

In “A.N.G.I.E.,” Bosch and Robin don military attire and launch into a series of absurd recruitment pitches. The sketch pokes fun at various aspects of the current state of affairs. They humorously declare that the new defence force won’t use textbooks because “there is no time to read in a war.” This clever jab references the ongoing challenges in the education sector. They discuss how the defence force will “win a war by denying VISAs,” a witty nod to bureaucratic red tape. Their self-deprecating humour shines through as we can clearly see that they can’t really count either while doing pull-ups, drawing laughs from viewers familiar with the struggles in education standards.

The sketch “A.N.G.I.E.” has just been uploaded but has already started garnering views and social media has already started commenting.

“ha ha ha”

“You can’t do that anymore, only me” – I cried with laughter when I heard that.”

“AG PLEAZE MAN !!!! When are you guys going to start your own TV program!!!! It will be a 100% success hit!”
