Comrades

A man wearing a Brazilian Flag took a moment out of his Comrades race to have a little fun. He stopped off at a watering point and danced his heart out

We just can’t get enough of the good news stories that came from the Comrades Marathon. The latest is more of a feel-good story than a good news one.

Iago Sampaio Marcal has become a viral sensation after he started dancing at the Comrades Marathon. The Brazilian runner lives in Cape Town and runs for the Carbineers Western Province club. He finished his race in 10:17:49, earning a bronze but in our hearts, he gets a gold for his winning spirit!

According to Twitter, Iago was halfway through and still had another 45km to go before finishing. One user thought it was great that he stopped to have a little fun along the way.

“You’re not gonna be number 1 so might as well have fun along the way! I know I’d do it!” – Jabulile

Others thought it was a clever way to keep his legs and core warm, thus preventing any injury later on.

“Love it!!! I hope his legs made it, perhaps the perfect warm up stretch/dance!!” – Nicky Abdinor

Mostly, people just loved that he had a good time while running one of the most gruelling marathons in the world. We love seeing people have a good time South African style!
